Zidane is still my hero..But he should've kicked the italian some more, or headbutted the referee who gave him the red card

CAMPIONE DEL MONDO!
Finally shaken off the curse of the penalties! And this victory is even sweeter because it was Trezeguet the one who missed the penalty, a bit of revenge from his golden goal in Euro 2000.
Very bad way for Zidane to go out, very disappointing, yes he and Materazzi (the man he headbutt) did exchange words (but the words seemed to go both ways) but Zidane, 34 years old and with over 100 international caps, probably more than 500 caps in total for clubs and having played in 4 World Cups (94 98 02and 06) shouldn't have done that.

Zidane still deserves the Golden Ball Award. He is a legend.

lol linhlh, I just came down when that happened it was like "what the hell was he doing!?" Also, it should have had "After 15 seconds you get a Red card, but the French fans go mental against the opposite side" on your picture-shop
And congratulations to the Italians!! Although you may/may not have noticed, there was a player from Ashton-Under-Lyne, England there, so Although our team was out, we get a small compliment for that
Well, sooner or later there'll be an official football thread (2006-2007) so um... Bring on the striker!

Heh, nice skill to have that
No he didn't deserve the Golden Ball Award, Cannavaro should have won it (he was next in the poll by a couple hundred votes), but the journalists voted during half time so they didn't see Zidane's headbutt yet.

I lol'ed.
And you're right, he is an absolute legend; shame he couldn't finish up by taking home the cup.

That's not my pic anyway. Just found it on internet.
Yeah, if journalists could vote after the match, I think Cannavaro will get it because FIFA always put fairplay on top.
But Zidane also played very well in this tournament, he is the heart of France. He couldnt control himself at the end of the final, but after what he did for France the whole WC, I think no one will argue about his award. That is also a nice gift for him before he retire from football.

lol That was awesome. The game was great. I taped it and recorded it on DVD. I was estatic that the Italian side won. Ever since i watched them first play i have loved the way they play. Great game. Though i have to say after what Zidane did he didnt deserve the Golden Ball. That was just too unclassy. Not like him at all. Even though the Italian player apparently twisted his nipple and called him a terrorist that doesnt mean Zidane has to go and react like he did. That is not how he plays nor how he should be remembered. The WC is alot about sportsmenship and what both players did was uncalled for. I just dont see him deserving the Golden ball after what he did. I could see Buffon getting it since he played great. Allowing only 2 goals in all the games is an amazing achievement. Even though he had the best defense in front of him, what he did was just amazing.

It's still unclear what Materazzi called him (the rumour that he was called a "dirty terrorist" was started by some anti-racist organization called SOS Racism, which interestingly enough is based in Paris, so I won't really believe anything until either Zidane or Materazzi make a statement.

The votes were cast at Halftime, so it came prior to the headbutting incident. Otherwise, it would've likely gone to Fabio Cannavaro.
